Gazan Boy Returns Home After Major Surgery in Chicago

Nearly four months after arriving to Chicago for major surgery, five-year-old Tayyem Daher returned to his home in Gaza. He was born with a vascular lesion on the left side of his face, and traveled with his mom to Chicago, where he received underwent a major life changing surgery to remove the lesion.

Injured Gazan Teen Receives New Leg in Boston

Italian Plastic Surgeons Returns to Gaza

This week, Dr. Pietro Massei, the Director of the Division of Plastic Surgery at the Hospital of Lucca, Tuscany, Italy returned to Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis/Gaza to provide a week of complex reconstructive surgery on burned and need patients. Also joining him is volunteer surgeon Dr. Ileana Petrovic.

Two Iraqi Girls Sent to India for Lifesaving Surgery

This week, the PCRF sponsored two Iraqi children to go to India for life-saving open-heart surgery. 13-month-old Zainab Abdulghani and 19-month-old Umalbaneen Alzubaidi were born with heart defects, and both girls desperately need open-heart surgery to survive. The PCRF cooperated again with The Chain of Hope UK charity to send the girls and their mothers to Bangalore for surgery.

Italian Pediatric Tracheal and Pulmonary Team Starts Surgery

This week, a team from Tuscany in Italy arrived at the Palestine Medical Complex in Ramallah to start providing children from the West Bank and Gaza Strip complex pediatric tracheal and pulmonary surgery that is otherwise not available to them locally. The team are helping to support and train local surgeon Dr. Nisreen Rumman, and in the past volunteered through the PCRF at Makassed Hospital in East Jerusalem.

Eight Syrian Refugees Sponsored for Surgery in Lebanon

This week, the PCRF sponsored pediatric surgeries for eight Syrian refugees in Lebanon. They were 7-year-old Abdul Rahman Debas, a Syrian refugee from Ghouta, Asmaa Khayat, a 12-year-old and Farah Khayat, 18-year-old Syrian child, both from Damascus, Kamel Al Shoueikh, a 10-year-old from Aleppo, Lamis Al Diraan, 18-year-old from Daraa, Mohammad Al Rajab a 9-year-old from Homs, Qamar Nashar a 9-year-old from Hamat, and Thuraya Dawoud a 5-year-old Qunaitera.

Injured Boy Arrives to Boston for a new Prosthetic Leg

In October 2015 16-year-old Waad El Zerei, was shot in his right leg while walking near the Gaza border, resulting in an above-knee amputation. This week, the PCRF managed to get him to Boston, where he will be fitted with a new customized prosthetic leg which will enable him to walk again.

The BMT was sponsored by PCRF, AUBMC access, and a private donor.

Syrian Refugee Recovering from Surgery in Jeddah

Five-year-old Nada Al Saab is a Syrian refugee living in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. She was born with cerebral palsy which resulted in impairments in her lower limbs. She recently underwent surgery to lengthen the knee and heel tendons at the Jeddah New Clinic. The girl will remain in a cast for six weeks and is expected to make a full recovery.

Five-year-old Limar Qasem is a Syrian refugee living in Jordan who the PCRF sent in 2014 to Prof. Carlo Vosa in Naples, Italy for life-saving open-heart surgery. Fourteen-year-old Ameer Khanfar from the West Bank town of Nablus is recovering in Dallas, Texas after traveling to the Scottish Rite Hospital there through the PCRF to correct his severe congenital scoliosis. He had had fusion surgery at the age of five and needed a second surgery six months later to remove the rods due to an infection.

Eighteen-month-old Rawan Al-Kubaisi was born with a defected heart which needed urgent life-saving surgery. The family are internal refugees from war-torn Fallujah currently living in Erbil in northern Iraq. The PCRF helped to sponsor her treatment with the Chain of Hope in the UK to send her to Banaglore for an urgent open-heart surgery, where this week she underwent complicated and risky surgery needed to save her life at the Narayana Hospital. She is currently healing and is expected to recover fully soon.

This week, nine-year-old Ali Safia, a Lebanese child from Nabatieh, underwent epilepsy surgery at the American University of Beirut Medical Center by Dr. Marwan Najjar. The PCRF shared in the costs of this operation with the Ajialouna and Al Shefa organizations, as well as the Banin Foundation.

Injured Gazan Girl Returns Home After Treatment in Dubai

Eighteen-year-old Nima Freij from Gaza returned home this week after a month of surgery and follow-up in Dubai. In 2009 Nima suffered from an explosive injury to her leg and was sent in November by the PCRF to Dubai where she underwent reconstructive surgery to correct a deformity in her leg.
